VCAA fails students…again!

The Victorian government has ordered a review into the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Body (VCAA) after it was discovered that the same or similar questions for the 2024 Year 12 exams were posted online.

The VCAA published sample cover sheets for the legal studies and specialist maths exams on its website, but the exams had transparent text which could be viewed when copy and pasted to a text editor or word document.

The text appeared to be either identical or very similar to the questions that appeared on the 2024 exams which has compromised the exams. Questions for other upcoming exams have also appeared online.

This is the third year that the VCAA has failed Victorian students. In past years, there were multiple errors in the chemistry and maths exams, and some Chinese language students were even given the incorrect exams.

Due to the problems at the VCAA, Victorian Education Minister Ben Carroll has ordered a complete review of the VCAA by external examiners.

From our experience the VCAA, schools and teachers in Victoria are under increasing pressure to do more with less as the Victorian government continually cuts resources. As a result, mistakes are being made and it is the students who suffer the consequences.

If Victoria wants to continue to be known as “The Education State”, then the Victorian Government needs to invest the appropriate amount of money and resources the education sector and our children need.
